UAV, UCAV in Military

Dear KG Military forum members


I believe that unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)/unmanned aerial system (UAS) & unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) will have a greater strategic role
in modern military today and beyond

there're many posibilities for their roles in military:

Reconnaissance/surveillance/intelligence

Marking targets for guided bombs & missiles

Seeking & 'neutralizing' special target

Bombing

Air combat

and many more..

so if you want to explore these matters please share your thoughts and informations

btw in world recent conflicts & wars UAVs had already performing military tasks, can anyone confirming it?

Description: The Tier III Minus project used Dryden ground facilities during the flight test program.

The vehicle was developed by Lockheed Martin Skunk Works and Boeing Defense and Space Group to satisfy a goal of the Defense Airborne Reconnaissance Office to supply responsive and sustained data from anywhere within enemy territory, day or night, in all types of weather. Dubbed DarkStar, the vehicle, with a wing span of 69 feet, was designed to fly above 45,000 feet at subsonic speeds on missions lasting more than eight hours. The first DarkStar prototype (article #695) made its first flight on March 29, 1996. At the begininning of its second flight, on April 22, 1996, it crashed on takeoff, and was destroyed.

More than two years passed before the second Darkstar prototype (article #696) took to the air on June 29, 1998. The vehicle made a total of five flights, the last on January 9, 1999. The program was cancelled on January 28, 1999.

perang iraq 1 & 2 udah dipake sama AS kok. Predator, Desert Hawk, etc.

skrg juga masih dipake sama US marines di Iraq, misalnya buat nyari buron Al Qaeda.

Israel adalah negara paling banyak menggunakan UAV.
Dalam konflik Lebanon UAV Israel tidak hanya melakukan tugas2 pengintaian tapi juga melakukan tugas2 tempur aktif. Dalam beberapa serangan komando di kota Tyre Lebanon Selatan, UAV Israel aktif melakukan bantuan tembakan ke darat.
Hizbullah sendiri juga memiliki UAV, setidaknya 2 UAV Hizbullah dilaporkan ditembak jatuh oleh Israel, 1 ditembak dari darat, 1 lagi ditembak jatuh F-16 Israel.
Dalam 10 tahun ke depan 50% pesawat AU Israel akan terdiri dari UAV.

yup, kayanya di masa depan UAV bakal menggantikan pesawat biasa. kecil, lebih murah, gak membahayakan nyawa pengemudi, jd bisa di sacrifice. keren deh!

US Army berencana membeli 8 unit, sementara US Navy berencana membeli 4 unit Fire Scout UAV.
Pada tgl 16 - 17 Februari 2006 lalu Fire Scout berhasil melakukan pendaratan perdana di kapal perang US Navy setelah melakukan take off dari daratan dan para bulan Juli baru lalu Fire Scout berhasil melakukan uji coba penembakan dari udara dengan roket 12,75mm.

btw klo gak salah ITB bareng PT. DI juga pernah bikin UAV kan ???
( pernah baca di majalah angkasa sedisi tahun lalu )
