The Sex Pistols are an English punk rock band that formed in London in 1975. The band are widely credited with initiating the punk movement in the United Kingdom[1] and creating the first generation gap within rock and roll.

The Sex Pistols originally comprised vocalist Johnny Rotten, guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook and bassist Glen Matlock. Matlock was replaced by Sid Vicious in early 1977. Although their initial career lasted only three years and produced only four singles and one studio album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols, the group has been described by the BBC as "the definitive English punk rock band."

The Sex Pistols emerged as a response to the bombastic progressive rock and sentimental pop that dominated the music market in the mid-1970s.[4] Under the management of impresario Malcolm McLaren, the band created controversies which captivated Britain,[5] but often eclipsed their music.[6] Their concerts repeatedly faced difficulties with organisers and authorities and public appearances often ended in mayhem. Their 1977 single "God Save the Queen" was regarded as an attack on the monarchy and British nationalism.

In January 1978, at the end of a turbulent US tour, Rotten left the band and announced its breakup. Over the next several months, the three other band members recorded songs for McLaren's film version of the Sex Pistols' story, The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle. Vicious died of a heroin overdose in February 1979. In 1996, Rotten, Jones, Cook and Matlock reunited for the Filthy Lucre Tour; they staged two further reunion shows in 2002, and undertook tours in 2003, 2007 and 2008. On 24 February 2006, the Sex Pistols were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but they refused to attend the ceremony, calling the museum "a piss stain".

The band formed in 1984 in Minneapolis and released an EP on Combat Records. They subsequently signed to Reprise Records and released The Madness Begins EP in 1988 and Absolute Power in 1989. Despite some critical acclaim and a US tour opening for Overkill after the release of Absolute Power, Powermad never achieved notable success. However, their albums are considered collector's items by collectors of thrash and speed metal music. Powermad has resumed touring as of 2007 and they are working on a new full-length CD to be released.

Accept were a German heavy metal band from the town of Solingen, originally assembled in the early 1970s by Udo Dirkschneider. They played an important role in the development of speed metal [1] and Teutonic thrash metal, being part of the German heavy/speed/power metal scene to emerge in the early to mid 1980s along with bands such as Helloween, Running Wild, Grave Digger, Sinner, and Rage. Accept is the self-titled debut album released by the German heavy metal band Accept. It was recorded in 1978 and released in early 1979 on the German label Brain Records. Drums on the record are played by Frank Friedrich, but he chose not to pursue a professional music career and so his place was taken by Stefan Kaufmann just prior to the album's release.[1] Bassist Peter Baltes performs lead vocals on "Seawinds" and "Sounds of War".

Guitarist Wolf Hoffmann later remembered the debut as simply a collection of songs the band had worked up over the band's formative years, with no real focus for the band as of yet: "We were just playing songs that we had always played. It was material that had gathered up over the first few months and years of our existence and it was a mixture of all kinds of stuff." He also recalls it selling around 3,000 copies. Lead vocalist Udo Dirkschneider expressed dissatisfaction with the group's first effort looking back on it: "Naturally it was very exciting for us the first time we entered a recording studio, but also disappointing at the same time."[2] Accept would gain better production values and a more cohesive direction on future releases, but the debut was an important early step that gained them the ability to play the neighbouring countries of Belgium, The Netherlands and France for the first time.

I'm a Rebel is the second album by the heavy metal band Accept, recorded in 1979 and released in 1980 (see 1980 in music). It was the first of three consecutive Accept records to utilize Dirk Steffens as producer. The album finds Accept continuing to search for their musical direction, experimenting with a more commercial sound than on the debut. Bassist Peter Baltes once again sings lead vocals on two tracks, the slower-paced songs "No Time To Lose" and "The King".

The title track is credited to George Alexander, which is a pseudonym for Alex Young, elder brother of record producer and musician George Young and AC/DC guitarists Angus Young and Malcolm Young. Guitarist Wolf Hoffmann recalled the circumstances that led Alex Young to work with Accept: "He got involved with Accept through the producer. Everybody after the first record said we have to have a radio hit. 'Guys you need a radio hit and we have just the song for you. Why don't you try this here?'" The song became the basis for the band's first music video.

Lead singer Udo Dirkschneider believes that the album "wasn't too inspired. I think because of some unsuccessful experiments, the band wasn't too solid and the identity wasn't discovered yet."[1] He also blamed "too many people involved trying to manipulate the band, just like on the first album."[2] Accept would become determined to resolve these deficiencies on their next album, Breaker.

I'm A Rebel gained international distribution in the United Kingdom and United States on the Logo and Passport labels, respectively. These international versions both depict a sword hilt on the cover, a more identifiably "heavy metal" image than the original German cover. The Passport version simply titles the record Accept, as the band's 1979 self-titled debut had not been released in America.

Breaker is the third album released by the heavy metal band Accept. It was once again recorded at Delta-Studio in Wilster with Dirk Steffens producing, and was the first Accept album engineered by Michael Wagener. Bassist Peter Baltes sings lead vocal on "Breaking Up Again", and the bridge vocal on "Midnight Highway".

After the unsuccessful attempt at commercialism on I'm a Rebel, Accept decided not to allow any more outside people to influence the band. Pulling together in the midst of a very cold winter,[1] the band members concentrated on making the album they themselves wanted to make. Udo Dirkschneider remembers: "Following our experiences with I'm A Rebel we made it our goal not to be influenced musically by anyone outside of the band this time."[2] Udo believes Breaker is among Accept's best records and marks the beginning of the band's greatest era [3] - the album title would later become the name of Udo's own record company, Breaker Records.

Wolf Hoffmann concurs: "Maybe we knew that the old approach from the record before didn't work very well. So we were saying 'fuck it, let's just do what we think is right. Let's not try to be somebody else, let's not try to have a radio hit anymore.'" The lone possible concession to commercial interests was the upbeat rocker "Midnight Highway", which Wolf described as "sort of a semi-commercial attempt" and "a little too happy for my tastes."

Much of the rest of the album is angry and defiant in tone, especially the profanity-laced "Son Of A Bitch". Udo describes that song's lyrics as "absolutely anti record company."[4] Wolf explains why this particular song was the only one to not have its lyrics printed inside the album: "On the initial release WE thought it would be a good idea to just put "Censored" on the liner notes for the song to avoid any controversy. Well, it turns out it caused MORE controversy that way with everyone wanting to know who censored it."[5] An alternate version titled "Born To Be Whipped" was recorded with tamer lyrics. Wolf explains: "We had to change it because the British were so uptight about this kind of stuff that you couldn't possibly release the record over there with a song called Son Of A Bitch."

Restless and Wild is the fourth album by the German heavy metal band Accept, released in 1982. It was the first Accept album to not be recorded at Delta-Studio, the band moving to Dieter Dierks' studio in Stommeln. It is also the first Accept album in which Udo Dirkschneider sings every track, as well as the first in which manager Gaby Hauke ("Deaffy") gains credits for songwriting. Michael Wagener took engineering and mixing duties once again.

The album is best known for the opening track, "Fast as a Shark", considered among the first speed metal songs.

Another well-known track is album closer "Princess Of The Dawn", a tense Gothic song that Udo describes as "a Cinderella story" and "like a Lord Of The Rings fantasy" with no deep meaning. Wolf Hoffmann and Jan Koemmet achieved the haunting mandolin-like effect by recording the guitars at half-speed, then having it played back at normal speed.[1] Wolf Hoffmann describes the sudden ending as "an idea that didn't work so well."

Udo agrees with the general assessment of Restless and Wild as a landmark heavy metal record, calling it "surely the most important Accept album".[2] Wolf's praise is more reserved, calling it "just another record" and adding, "Looking back maybe we think Fast As A Shark was the first speed metal song ever, but at the time we sorta just had fun and we didn't think it was anything dramatically new. Obviously, maybe what was so cool about this time was that we weren't thinking so much. We were just ballsy and tried to do things without having much to lose."

Versions of the album released outside Germany were issued with a different cover, replacing the picture of burning guitars with a shot of the band live in concert.

Balls to the Wall is the fifth album by the German metal band Accept, released in 1983 in Germany and 1984 in the United States. It is the band's best known and highest-selling album, selling about two million copies worldwide,[1] and is Accept's only record to attain Gold certification in America.

Some of the album's success can no doubt be attributed to the publicity generated from the minor "gay metal" controversy that broke out upon its American release, due to the record's title and front cover being deemed by some as homoerotic, as well as the lyrics to "London Leatherboys" and "Love Child" appearing to concern homosexuals.[1] Guitarist Wolf Hoffmann was dismissive of the controversy, saying years later that "You Americans are so uptight about this. In Europe it was never a big deal...we just wanted to be controversial and different and touch on these touchy subjects, because it gave us good press and it worked fabulously, you know".[2] Drummer Stefan Kaufmann explained that many of the themes on the album were about oppressed minorities in general. "London Leatherboys" was really about bikers, for example: "They're normal people, they just look different and they behave different. But they're normal people, another minority. And 'Love Child' was about gays, true, but it's basically about people who are suppressed.

With 1985's Metal Heart, German metal institution Accept attempted to add catchier choruses and melodies to their high-octane guitar riffing in a clear ploy to crack the American market. Not that this move in any way upset the balance of their thus-far smooth-running metal machine, which had been gaining momentum with every release since the start of the decade. No, Metal Heart was certainly a step toward accessibility, but a cautious one at that — and, frankly, there was no toning down when it came to the lacerated larynx of gifted lead screamer Udo Dirkschneider. You gotta hand it to Acceptmore…, they sure knew how to make an entrance by now, and the apocalyptic title track is about as dramatic as it gets (the operatic "Bound to Fail" comes close), with guitarist Wolf Hoffman taking the helm on a long, mid-song solo excursion containing equal nods to Beethoven (very nice) and Edward Van Halen (get real). First single "Midnight Mover" is next, and along with the even more melodic "Screaming for a Love-Bite," it places obvious emphasis on hooks and melodies (and proved to be the toughest to stomach for the band's more hardcore fans). But despite another strange detour into jazz territory with the bizarre "Teach Us to Survive," Accept still packed amazing power, heaping on their Teutonic background vocals for the ultraheavy "Dogs on Leads" and gleefully pile-driving their way through relentless moshers like "Up to the Limit" and "Wrong Is Right." The brilliantly over-the-top "Too High to Get It Right" finds Dirkschneider screeching like never before, and to cap things off, the band really cooks on "Living for Tonight" — arguably the best track all around. A winning set.

Russian Roulette is a 1986 release by German heavy metal band Accept. It was again recorded at Dierks-Studios, but the band chose to self-produce rather than bring back Dieter Dierks as producer. It would be the last Accept album to feature Udo Dirkschneider as lead vocalist until the 1993 reunion album Objection Overruled.

The album returns Accept to the darker, heavier sound of releases prior to the more commercial-sounding predecessor Metal Heart. Wolf Hoffmann explains the band's decision: "Maybe we were trying sort of go back to our natural and not polished Accept sound with that record. We weren't really all that happy with the polished and clean-sounding Metal Heart. I was sort of very happy with my guitar playing on that record and very happy with my parts, but I remember the whole vibe of the band was at the time that we don't want to go through this again with Dieter Dierks who had produced Metal Heart." Peter Baltes explained the album's title and front cover as an expression of the strong anti-war themes throughout the record, showing war as a game of russian roulette: "it means - go and play the game y’know, what a silly game it is. One will die definately." [1]
The digitally remastered CD edition includes live versions of "Metal Heart" and "Screaming For A Love-Bite" as bonus tracks, taken from the Kaizoku-Ban album.

Eat the Heat is a 1989 release by German Heavy metal band Accept. It was recorded at Dierks-Studios, in Cologne, from September 1988 to January 1989. Although Jim Stacey is presented as guitar player in the band on the album cover, the cover text also states that all guitars are by Wolf Hoffmann.
Accept parted ways with Udo Dirkschneider in order to take a more commercial direction in their music. This is Accept's only album without Udo Dirkschneider as lead vocalist. While many fans had difficulty with both the singer and direction, as time passes this disc is being seen as perhaps Accept's greatest and most accessible offering.[citation needed]
Udo's somewhat dreary band U.D.O. contributes with crowd vocals on "Turn The Wheel". U.D.O. has also covered the song "X-T-C" on the 2001 compilation "A Tribute To Accept II". Accept later recorded "Generation Clash II" based on "Generation Clash" with Udo Dirkschneider on vocals for their 1994 album Death Row.

1995's Death Row is the well-intended, but somewhat flat follow-up to the marginally successful Accept comeback release, Objection Overruled. The group wisely attempted to make a more consistently heavy recording and practically eliminated the mellower dynamics that limited their previous offering. While opting for a more singularly heavy approach was a good decision, the choice of drummer Stefan Kaufmann to produce the record left things sounding a little weak when compared to Objection Overruled (produced by the legendary Dieter Dierks). While the performances are lively, Kaufmann's mixes lackmore… presence, and the band ends up sounding clear, but nondescript. Wolf Hoffman's guitars and Udo Dirkschneider's screams don't grate and churn the way they must in order to capture the particular magic that is Accept's official sonic stamp. As a result, it's difficult to pick standout cuts from Death Row as the material just wasn't done justice in the studio. Perhaps the group wasn't afforded the budget necessary to finish anything more than just a competent recording, but that's what the band, and especially their fans, deserve.

Recorded during the last stages of the band's reunion tour, the double-disc The Final Chapter was designed as Accept's last album. It's a respectable way to depart, if that's the case, because it finds the group bashing thorugh staples like "Balls to the Wall," "Son of a Bitch," "London Leatherboys," "Restless & Wild" and "The Beast Inside." They occasionally show signs of wear (and that's why it's a good thing that this marks the end of their nearly 20-year career), but hardcore fans will be able to excuse those weaknesses and accept this as a nice testament to one of the heaviest German bandsmore… of the early '80s.

Uriah Heep are an English rock band, formed in December 1969 when record producer Gerry Bron invited keyboardist Ken Hensley (previously a member of The Gods and Toe Fat) to join Spice, a band signed to his own Bronze Records label.

In spite of their huge popularity in Britain and continental Europe, Uriah Heep were never able to break into the American market in a big way, with the exception of three hit songs, "Easy Livin' " from the 1972 album Demons and Wizards, "Sweet Lorraine" from the 1972 album The Magician's Birthday (a top ten album in Australia), and "Stealin' " from the 1973 release Sweet Freedom. The band released several commercially successful albums in the 1970s, including the seminal Uriah Heep Live (1973), but their audience declined by the 1980s, to the point where they became essentially a cult band in the US and UK. Uriah Heep maintain a significant following in Germany, the Netherlands, the Scandinavian Peninsula, the Balkan Peninsula, Japan and Russia, where they still perform at stadium-sized venues.

Graphic artist Roger Dean painted several of their album covers, most notably Demons & Wizards (1972), The Magician's Birthday (1972), and Sea of Light (1994).

An Evening of Yes Music Plus (1993) is a live album by the progressive rock group Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe.

Though ABWH had lost the legal rights to use the name of their parent group Yes, it was agreed that they could refer to their origins in Yes on tour posters and merchandise. Thus their 1989-90 world tour was advertised by the phrase “An Evening of Yes Music Plus”.

The album opens with an excerpt from Benjamin Britten’s “Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra”. The rest of the album consists of material from Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe’s self-titled studio album, classic Yes songs and excerpts from Rick Wakeman’s solo work.

Tony Levin, who played bass on the studio album as well as most of the tour, was ill during the concert recorded on this album. He was replaced by bassist Jeff Berlin. The cover features a painting by Roger Dean titled “Floating Islands”.

In Wakeman's solo medley, he performs part of "Madrigal", not "Gone But Not Forgotten" as listed.

In February 2007, Voiceprint re-released the DVD with additional material available as a limited edition.

The album was released in the US by Herald/Caroline Records without the title on the cover.

When this album was first released in 1989 one newspaper pundit termed it as one "whose sublimed redundancy makes the work of the Wombles appear profound in comparison".Well I have nothing against Mike Batt and his furry pals but this album sure knocks spots off Orinocco and co.

Yes were in a legal mess at the time and so Jon Anderson, Bill Bruford, Rick Wakeman and Steve Howe were not able to use the name Yes. Instead they hit upon the catchy 'Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe' and toured playing lots of old Yes numbers to a very high standard augmented by the well known bassist Tony Levin inmore… place of 'Fishy' Chris Squire. They also recorded this album and seamlessly slotted in many of the tracks from it to the set; so much like clsssic Yes tracks they sound.

The opening track 'Themes' sets the scene for what is to come very well with its extended instrumental breaks and nonsensical lyrics. 'Fist of Fire' follows and it's a much shorter piece with strident keyboard playing from Uncle Rick. Next up is a ten minute version of the single 'Brother of mine' which is one of those tunes which you cannot get out of your head once you've listened to it. Some nice keyboard playing again from Rick who really does seem to come out well into the mix throughout the early tracks. 'Birthright' follows and it's a somewhat slow burner of a protest song. Track five is the albums highpoint for me. An absolutely beautiful song called 'The Meeting' which is really just a duet between Andersons vocals and Wakemans keyboards. Simply fantastic - the song was even revived for the 2004 Yes tour. The next two tracks 'Quartet' and 'Teakbois' are for me the albums low points. Both doodle somewhat with 'Quartet' name checking a number of old Yes songs in the lyrics. Neither were played live which bears out the fact that they were probably not the bands favourites either. The final two tracks exit in style with the agressive 'Order of the Universe' seaging into the melancholy final track 'Let's pretend' (co-written by Vangelis).

So there you have it, 59 minutes of largely Classic Yes by any other name.

Turn It On Again: The Hits is a 1999 compilation album by British veteran progressive rock/Rock band Genesis.

Although it mostly samples material from the Phil Collins era (1976 - 1992), the collection stretches back to "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)" from 1973's Selling England by the Pound — the only track from the Peter Gabriel years. However, as a bonus, a re-recording of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway's "The Carpet Crawlers" featuring Gabriel, Collins and Steve Hackett—recorded in 1997 and 1998 and intended for Genesis Archive 1967-75 — was included as well.

Upon its release, Turn It On Again: The Hits reached #4 on the UK Albums Chart and #65 on the U.S. albums chart, where it achieved gold record status.

The band formed in 1984 in Minneapolis and released an EP on Combat Records. They subsequently signed to Reprise Records and released The Madness Begins EP in 1988 and Absolute Power in 1989. Despite some critical acclaim and a US tour opening for Overkill after the release of Absolute Power, Powermad never achieved notable success. However, their albums are considered collector's items by collectors of thrash and speed metal music. Powermad has resumed touring as of 2007 and they are working on a new full-length CD to be released.

Uriah Heep are an English rock band, formed in December 1969 when record producer Gerry Bron invited keyboardist Ken Hensley (previously a member of The Gods and Toe Fat) to join Spice, a band signed to his own Bronze Records label.

They were sometimes jokingly referred to as "The Beach Boys of heavy metal" for their melodic songs, and trademark multi-part harmony backing vocals, although their music draws on diverse influences including progressive rock, hard rock, heavy metal, jazz, and even country on occasion.

In spite of their huge popularity in Britain and continental Europe, Uriah Heep were never able to break into the American market in a big way, with the exception of three hit songs, "Easy Livin' " from the 1972 album Demons and Wizards, "Sweet Lorraine" from the 1972 album The Magician's Birthday (a top ten album in Australia), and "Stealin' " from the 1973 release Sweet Freedom. The band released several commercially successful albums in the 1970s, including the seminal Uriah Heep Live (1973), but their audience declined by the 1980s, to the point where they became essentially a cult band in the US and UK. Uriah Heep maintain a significant following in Germany, the Netherlands, the Scandinavian Peninsula, the Balkan Peninsula, Japan and Russia, where they still perform at stadium-sized venues.

Fans of the name guitarists will appreciate this album for the assemblage. Present are Robby Krieger (The Doors), Jake E. Lee, Yngwie Malmsteen and much more. The stand-out track is Lemmy Kilmister (Motorhead), Ted Nugent and Rudy Sarzo (Whitesnake) on "Tie Your Mother Down." While there is not one take of "Bohemian Rhapsody!", the star personnel is there. Among the bassists is Ricky Phillips (The Babys) and Tony Franklin (The Firm, Blue Murder). Vocal duties by Robin McAuley (Michael Schenker Group), Paul Shortino (Rough Cutt), Glenn Hughes (Black Sabbath), James LaBrie (Dream Theater), and othersmore…. Showing up on drums is Carmen Appice (Vanilla Fudge, Beck, Ozzy, Rod Stewart), Eric Singer (KISS), Tommy Aldridge (Whitesnake, Ozzy, Black Oak Arkansas). Other guitarists include John Petrucci (Dream Theater) and Bruce Kulick (KISS). This is, of course, only some of the musicians employed. Everyone one of the eleven tracks has a different lineup. The disc closes with "It's Late," fusing Armored Saint and Anthrax members.

Moore released his first solo album in 1973, Grinding Stone and was billed as the Gary Moore Band. In 1978 his solo career continued with help from Phil Lynott. The combination of Moore's blues-based guitar and Lynott's voice, produced "Parisienne Walkways", which reached the Top Ten in the UK Singles Chart in April 1979; and the Thin Lizzy album, Black Rose: A Rock Legend hit number two.

In 1987, Moore collaborated on the UK charity record "Let It Be", a cover of The Beatles track. Moore performed a guitar solo for inclusion on the recording, which was released under the group-name of 'Ferry Aid'. The record raised substantial funds for the survivors of the MS Herald of Free Enterprise disaster.

In 1993, Moore was included on a cassette called Rock Classics Vol. 1 with "Run To Your Mama", and "Dark Side of the Moog".

After a series of rock records, Moore returned to blues music with Still Got the Blues, with contributions from Albert King, Albert Collins and George Harrison. The album was well received by fans and a huge success. Moore stayed with the blues format until 1997, when he decided to experiment with modern dance beats on Dark Days in Paradise; this left many fans, as well as the music press confused. Back to the Blues saw Moore return to his tried and tested blues format in 2001, then continued by Power of the Blues (2004), Old New Ballads Blues (2006), Close As You Get (2007) and his most recent album Bad For You Baby (2008).

The J. Geils Band (pronounced "Guiles") is an American rock band formed in 1967 in Worcester, Massachusetts best known for their 1981 single, "Centerfold" which charted #1 in the U.S. in early 1982.
