Hai semua, salam kenal.
Kayanya disini semua pada gape soal otomotif, jadi aku mo minta tolong...

Aku mo beli mobil yang preowned aja, kaga punya duit sih ;D Anak kuliahan ya gini ini... Nah, kasi tau dong mobil apa yang bagus, overall.
Bokap ngga mau kalo aku beli mobil yang compact, maunya yang midsize or bigger (whatta!!! ::marah!:: ), for safety sake.
Aku test drove Toyota Corolla, smooth emang, tapi dulu aku pernah ditabrak ama Corolla, nah tuh mobil langsung crushed, mobilku engga ada pain scratch nya sama sekali. Aku punya Oldsmobile Cutlass Cierra. Makanya bokap ngga mau aku beli Corolla. Terus test drove Honda Accord, juga, sama2 smooth, tapi Accord mahal geto. Ortu juga baru beli Pontiac Grand Am, itu juga enak disetirnya. Featuresnya asik, engine-wise... clueless ;D Et dah, anak mesin kok ya masih clueless tentang mobil... ::hhh:: Belon nyampe ke sono sih...

Terus kadang mending beli mobil baru daripada preowned, nah, ada yang tau mobil yang affordable plus bagus safety featurenya? N E way, it has to be V6, soalnya aku bakal pake buat di interstate mulu.

So what exactly r u asking? I'm kinda consufed here. But I'm getting that u were askin' and talkin' about:
1. U wanna buy a V6 engine midsize/bigsize preowned car.
2. But, u have a limited budget; a very, very limited budget (judging from what U said that, the Accord is still too expensive for U).
3. With your very limited budget, better buy a used car or a new car?

Answer:
1. Bigger car doesn't mean more safe on the road. It all depends on how you drive (your driving skill+attitide), how familiar with the area that u will be driving, and luck factor (surprise, huh?).
2. With your very limited budget, it's kinda hard to get a V6 equipped car. I think the New Corolla w/ V6 engine isn't bad at all. Frankly speeking, IMHO, don't buy American Sedan! Most of them are all a piece of crap, their reliability are a piece of crap also! Yes, American sedan are all affordable but they don't have the high and famous reliability and resale value as their Japanese or German counterpart. But since budget your main issue, well, u have no choice bro... other than buying an American sedan.
3. Used/New? It's a though call. But, If I were you, I'll buy new. Unless, u know the previous owner, the service history, and it's still under the manufacture warranty; then go get the used one.

You basically got the right idea. I am looking for a midsize, v6, Japanese car specifically. And looking at the prices, I'd say I'd be better off buying a new car cuz really they aren't much different. Yes I do have a very limited budget considering I don't wanna bother asking for my parents' help, but what can I say... I'm still in college, and until I graduate and get a real job, I will ask for their help anyway ;D BTW, Accord to me was too expensive for a used car. I could get a new car for the price they wanted to sell it for.

N E way, I very much agree that large size car isn't necessarily the safest. Even small ones can be safer on the road than larger ones, as far as the engine is concerned.
But yeah, most American cars s *****, Germans are cool, in fact, I was thinking of getting a VW Passat.
Oh yeah, Honda is affordable, the Civic one at least. But... oh shiiooott.... it's only v4 ;(

If I could find a good preowned car, I might get it for now. I know the risk for buying preowned, you don't know where it's been, what kinda shit it has, etc. But, if that's the only kind I can get for now, then oh well... I'll probably use it for 2 yrs max, then I can get a brand new one.

What do you know about Daewood? Audi?
ALso, a friend of mine told me that Toyota came up with this new car, I dunno what's it's called, but it's environmental friendly cuz it has that of solar powered car feature. Heard anything about it?

kalo krg lbh $12,000-$15,000, gua suggest beli nissan maxima 96-97. Rasanya sih kebeli deh.
reliable, comfortable and sporty.
Coba aja test drive, i think you will like it.

trdguy was right, beli MAXIMA 96-97 juga ok tuh boilnya. Loe ga bakalan nyesel. And gua juga se'feeling ama trdguy, kayanya budget loe itu antara USD$12000-USD$15000'an.

Passat, suggestion from Funky_Tunes, juga boleh tuh. Tapi resale valuenya ancur-ancuran.

NealCute, Trus trang, loe kayanya blon bisa narrowing down options loe deh :). Soalnya loe ngomongnya loncat-loncat dari mau V6 equipped car, tanya Audi, Accord, Civic, ada boil Amrik, VW Passat, etc etc etc. Btw civic itu Inline 4 bukan V4 :D. Saran gua, loe do research loe dulu. For instance, based on budget yg loe punya loe bisa beli boil type apa, drivetrain (matic/manual) yg kaya gimana yg loe mau, reliability factor, performance factor, resale factor, etc.
Pertanyaannya: how much is your real budget? Nah kita musti tau dulu, baru bisa ngasih saran on which car you should be getting. :)

Boil Toyota yg "green car" itu Toyota Prius kalo ga salah namanya. Itu bukan V6 engine'nya. Masalah Daewoo gua ga tau tuh. Ga pernah punya Daewoo :), yg laen bisa bantu? Kalo Audi, Loe mau Audi yg mana? A4, A6, A8, S4, S6, S8? Based on budget loe, kayanya loe musti beli yg A4. Itu juga standard banget, ga ada quattro and etc. Kalo yg A4 1.8T Quattro itu lumayan asal jgn beli steptronic. Cuman seperti engine turbo laennya, loe musti beli blow-off valve plus turbo timer buat bikin Turbo loe aman and umurnya lama. Tapi Audi itu ada masalah; masalah with their maintenance. Maintenancenya itu mahal and boilnya rewel. Oh satu lagi, Audi A4 itu enginenya bukan V6 seperti yg loe mau.

Ini juga lagi research, banyak bener seh mobil yang aku suka. Budgetnya ya segitu deh, $12- $15 grand. Kalo bisa dapet baru yang est. $20 grand, boleh lah..
Nanyanya loncat2 ya soalnya banyak yang aku suka.

Passat aku pengen soalnya safety ratingnya tinggi. Ada temen yang bilang itu spacious juga biarpun keliatan kecil.

Aku belum denger banyak tentang Nissan, kenalanku semua ngga ada yang punya Nissan, banyakan Toyota ato Honda.
Aku barusan liat info ttg Toyota Prius, ternyata itu electric hybrid yah, bukan solar... salah tangkep ;D Either way, bagus lah buat lingkungan.

OK, lemme get this straight... budget loe mentok-mentok itu sekitar USD$20 grand (buat boil baru). Hmmm kalo gitu, itu USD$20 grand loe itu musti di minus buat expenses laen seperti: tax, licenses, insurance, and other fees. Nah total-total budget loe bersih setelah dipotong buat insurance, licenses, tax, and other fees yaaa +/- USD$15-USD$16 grand. Well berarti loe itu di new car's brackett from Civic EX to Accord LX (approximately). Saran gua udah beli new aja jgn used :D
Accord EX mungkin agak over budget loe antara $1-$2 grand, tapi loe dapetin leather, sunroof segala.
Accord juga aman and bagus juga tuh, insurance'nya ga mahal (malahan murah abis-abisan).

beli nissan maxima 96 atau 97 yg SE udah pake sport suspension....mesinnya powerful sekali....sama civic si kayanya masih berani tarik2an deh.....
kalo accord 4 silinder jangan deh...mesinnya berisik, handling ngga enak sama sekali...kecuali mau beli yang v6...itu baru enak...comfortable, powerful....
camry juga not bad sih gue bilang...gue pake camry v6 tahun 1998, mesinnya bener2 smooth padahal punya gue mileagenya udah 64000 miles.....

NASDAQ, thanx a bunch, man. Accord yang aku test drove emang smooth sekali, itu 6 silinder, yang 4 aku belon pernah test drive. Soal insurance, being a very good driver that I am (PD AMIR!!), mine isn't bad at all. Tapi kalo aku beli sports car, malah melonjak lagi insurancenya. Makanya nyari yang sedan aja...
Bokap juga bilang kalo harganya engga jaoh bedanya, mending beli yang baru.

Berhubung banyak yang nyaranin Nissan, aku mo test drive juga dah. Terus (siap2 dijitak), kalo I hafta get an American one, yang paling bagus buatan mana? Mobil ortuku buatan Amrik semua, selama ini engga ada masalah. GMC, Ford, Oldsmobile, sama Pontiac. $20 grand dapet Ford Focus ;D Tapi aku belon research sih..

NealCute, ada beberapa points yg gua pengen kasih:

1. why do u need v6 engine ? gara2 loe bakal sering jalan di highway ? u don't need a V6 engine just because of that. V6 itu lbh boros ketimbang I4 loh, dan apakah loe value speed as an important criteria in choosing a car ? How about the economical value ? which one is more important. It up 2 u 2 decide.

2. New VS Used car. Kalo loe plan cuma pake buat 2 taon, rugi beli new car. Dan kalo loe mo beli new, jgn beli nissan. resale valuenya kinda low, kecuali loe mo keep tu boil for about 6 years.

3. Corolla hancur tabrakan ama loe ? of course ! dari segi sizenya aja boil loe lbh gede. Generally speaking, the larger the car the safer it is in case of an accident, tapi spt yg NASDAQ bilang, tergantung people factor juga. In addition, body boil america jauh lbh solid drpd boil jepang. so u are comparing apple w/ orange here. Bodi boil honda even lbh kaleng lagi !!!

4. Should u buy an American car, gua suggest beli saturn LS aja. they have pretty good reliability history. The style isn't that bad at all as well..but i'm not sure whether it fits your budget or not. Anyhow, gua setuju banget ama NASDAQ, kalo bisa seh jgn beli american car deh.

5. Should u buy a Japanese V6 new car, gua bener2 no idea kalo budget loe cuma 20k. maybe galant or mazda 626. kalo yg bekas sih i'd go with either maxima ato camry v6. XLEV6 udah ngasih reviewnya tuh ttg camry :D, and I couldn't agree less with (him/her ;(??)

6. Volkswagen ? hmm..mending jangan deh.. qualitynya crap ! I think VW is one of the worst car manufacturer based on consumer report taon 98-99an deh..
Temen gua punya VW Golf baru (dia beli taon 99), troublesome banget !! ada aja yg rusak. Sialnya, dia musti drive around 100 miles to get to the nearest VW service center !! really crap !!

NealCute, gini aja... loe cobain Accord dulu deh. Accord yg V6 emang lebih smooth; tapi interm of powerwise, ga beda jauh ama yg EX 5 speed VTEC. Masalahnya Accord V6 itu automatic...
Mobil America? Wah jgn deh... AHahahha Parents loe blon aja kena maintenance problemsnya :). Mobil Amrik itu terkenal dengan huge maintenance probs; also reliabilitynya ****z abis.... trdguy and XLEv6 udah kasih good inputs tuh... :)

Beezzzz, dude, kalo di US maintenance itu bikin sakit kantong :D. Makanya banyak yg bilang gini: kalo mo beli boil, jgn ketuaan; and jgn yg maintenance'nya mahal. Ntar ujung-ujungnya ownernya itu bakalan abis dikerjain ama biaya maintenance boilnya. Gua kasih contoh yg gampang aja... dulu pas gua mau service 30000 milleage buat Toyota 4Runner gua, biaya totalnya itu sekitar USD$465'an. Nah biaya spare parts itu +/- sekitar USD$230' and sisanya buat labor. HIaehiehiiehaiehi perih juga kan ya?:D Labor di US itu muahal.... :)

kalo mau beli mobil amrik sih mending pilih saturn deh...dia punya customer satisfaction termasuk bagus..kalo ngga salah peringkat 2 sesudah lexus deh...

gue pernah bawa ford taurus sewaan tahun 99 (v6), di highway gue kalah tarikan sama bmw 325 tua yg masih model lama...jadi v6 ngga terlalu menentukan sih kalo gue bilang

kalo mau beli mobil baru coba aja cari civic yg 2000 model...itu harganya murah...disini (Madison, WI) sekitar $15000 udah dapet yg EX, matic, full option....atau accord yg 2000 model juga udah disale...mungkin sekitar 18000 bisa dapet yg LX.....

kalo mau mobil bekas yg murah sih galant atau mazda 626 kalo beli accord used agak rugi sih menurut gue soalnya harganya terlalu tinggi...cuman beda sedikit sama yg baru...kecuali mileagenya gede (gue pernah ditawarin accord EX tahun 98 cuman $11K tapi mileagenya 120.000)

I have heavy feet ;D jadinya perlu v6, tapi kamu bilang v6 ngga nentuin juga kalo buat tarik2 an ;( Hmm.. I consider the safety factor highly, economical value, too. Speed- wise, I kinda want my car to be speedy, too. Aku ngga pernah pake v4, waktu test drove Ford Contour (yeah, a piece of junk, it was v4... ::bonyok:: abis dijitakin ama para experts), rasanya berat banget. I prefer automatic, too, soalnya ngga pernah nyetir manual, bisa belajar sih... :)

Iya, Accord used emang terlalu tinggi harganya. Kalo Civic new bisa aku dapetin dgn harga $15 grand, I'll consider buying it then. Tapi bodinya kok malah lebih kaya kaleng yah :( Cuek dah... Yang penting aku ati2 aja kalo dijalan.

Emang sih mobilku lebih solid dibanding Toyota yang nabrak aku, makanya bokap lebih suka aku beli mobil yang gedhe, biar selamet terus should there be an accident again (hope not, tho ;D ).

Saturn isn't bad at all, it's affordable, too. I kinda talked to my dad about it, but he was indifferent. jadi aku ya rada gimana gitu. He was my only reference, now I got plenty :D:D Heehehe..

Masa sih VW's crappy? ::bingung:: My brother has a convertible passat, dia kayanya suka bener.

Beli boil kalo gua sih pasti stick shift (manual), otherwise, kalo ga ada yg manual ya udah ambil maticnya aja.
Manual itu lebih fun to drive lagi, lo belajar dulu dah pake manual... ntar berasa enaknya pake manual :D

Kalo bisa ambil Civic EX ambil EX manual, kalo ada yg jual Civic SI bekas, ambil aja asal masih mulus. Civic SI itu performancenya ok bro :)

IMHO, VW itu crappy banget, tanyain aja ama bro loe maintenancenya gimana.. :D

Aku trauma pengalaman di kasih ride sama temen bokap, mereka pake stick, tapi ngga mahir bener ;( I was about to throw up the entire time we were in the car!! ::marah!::

Ikutan deh, kata gue sieh kalo loe mo yang safe, economical ga musti yang V6, setau gue mobil v6 kalo budget 15000 an sih palingan dapet Mazda 626, atau Maxima taun 1995/1996.
Dulu gue jg mikir kaya gitu sieh pengen yang performance, safe tapi budget terbatas. Gua cari Maxima yang taun rada baruan rada susah tuh dapetnya kalo 15 K an, kalo yang lama rata2 udah jalan jauh. Kalo pendapat gue sih kalo loe sering buat jalan jauh lebih enak pake matic, i mean loe juga cari family car, ngga usah cepet2 banget tuh, lagian kalo kena ticket doh mahalnya..., ga worth it lah tarik2an di jalan.
Dulu sih gua ambil galant ES 99 soalnya harga nya, waktu gua beli bekas murah cuman 14K, baru jalan 10 K juga. Trus drivetrain nya masih 4 taun lagi warranty nya. Hehehe by then i should be driving m3 LOL.
BTW beli mobil tergantung juga loe mo mod ngga soalnya kalo beli kaya gua ini susah diapa2in hehehee.
