watching movie w.out reading the translated speech, that was good one. i think you have to 'ngegaet' bule to be your bf maybe? or change your hair color b'comes blond, stop eating rice, chew some bread, it may help to xercise your tongue to speak english... :D

dian ara

If you wanna speak english well, you gotta think in english too. That works for me ::up::

since I think 'think in English' is such word ^^;

dian ara
31-08-2005, 10:39 PM
Nope. That's not my point. :)

I mean that if I think of somethink, then I would think about it in English. Not in Indonesian. Really.

Well, it's not that simple. Because I often forget to do it. Only when I remember, of course. ;D

hmmm it seems that you have trouble having your point straight :D

one thing that one should know before learning different language is there might not be an expression, words, or terms the same as other language have

even 'none' have (about) equivalent meaning 'tidak ada' in Bahasa Indonesia, you can't really replace every word 'none' to 'tidak ada' as well as replacing every 'tidak ada' you found in Bahasa Indonesia text to 'none' because their usage is situational

Atalanta: That's not embarrassing. The more embarrassing thing is that if you keep on forgetting how to speak indonesian like I do. Sometimes after a short chat in english, if somebody then talk indonesian to me, I really have to like, stop a while and think, what's it in Indonesian?? That really is utter total stupid and still can't figure out how to stop that embarrassing habit. Not like my english is good, really. I really am wondering what's my mother language is becuz there's no particular language I really master ;D

gramatically, I'm not sure if 'think in english' is correct or incorrect. However, I think using other expressions is more appropriate ^^;

'think smartly' 'think quickly' is gramatically correct (I think?)

as 'think in a way like you never learn other language than English'

Jono: Yes I changed it. I limit people from knowing my contact number.
I hate it deeply when somebody call me without a clear indentity and just ask my name and my life.
Ofcoz we should arrange it! But I'm not very certain if I'd be able to attend any gathering nearby, my apology.
PM me your number? We can keep contact by SMS... :)

Sherina: Really? I read some few pages and *yawn*. Hehehe.. But if it's that good then I think I shall reread it :D

if the cards are hallmark quality - full color, on good paper and the pic and captions are well printed - then 70 thou is okay.
but if its just normal carton paper using an ink jet printer then its a bit too pricey IMO.

LeLuna

I don't really dig my own pictures... But, no, I don't really think that's too expensive.
Well actually it depends on what kind of paper, fabrics, color, graphics it uses...
No that's not too expensive if that's THAT good.

Sherina.. why don't you? Pram is the brain of Indonesian's literature.
Well let me recommend you the other, Budi Darma.

yeah, I agree with you... we have to know that phrase was sometimes built upon a custom of the area, and we all know there is no such thing as "silaturahmi" in English, all we can do is just find the closest translation to that phrase, for example:

silaturahmi = visiting relatives and friends
mohom maaf lahir batin = please, forgive all of my mistakes
aman dan tentram = peace and quiet

Ireth Halliwell
07-10-2005, 10:40 AM

not in a wrong way
my dudulzment is not that parah... :D

i was confused how to reply everytime there's a line like that
you see, i don't know the way you speak it so I don't get the expression...
expression is really important and that's what forums and boards don't have
that's why sometimes users get confused about one liner...
they just state it one line or worse, one word without further explaination...
sometimes I (and many other users) get confused with that.

well don't mind me really, don't have to apology
this is because i'm dudulz at the moment..

really, how old are you? 20 something?

I seldom playing in this forum... but consider my English has been deskilled, I think I will running around here from now on...

I'm so depressed! My english skill on writing somehow has been deskilled bcoz I havent had time to use it (university life, I write papers in indonesia, not in english)

Could someone give me tips how to write good essay in english? I'm confused on how I should thinking when writing essay. Should I think the sentences in Indonesia, thus converting it in english when writing it? Or should I think the sentences directly in english to practice my skill? I'm really confused and stressed out because of this. Sigh.:( :( :(

Ps: Tomorrow I have english test, I'm afraid I'm gonna stuck somehow.:(

I don't think there's any other easy and effective way than reading article in english.
It'll help REALLY much

or try joining English speaking forum. A good one like the educational one. Not like a gaming one where people are incredibyl stupid that most people can't type well (they type "your" as a replacement of "you're", or "then" to "than", "comparison" to "compairison" which IMO *sorry* retarded *sorry*)

I second this.

Once I read this interview with somewhat an aspiring writer (i forgot her name, but the book is Icarus Girl if im not wrong), she said that to make a good story you need to read A LOT.

and not just reading, you should also analyze the grammar, the vocab and so on and so forth. maybe you could try read those popular ones like the time traveller's wife, 5 people you meet in heaven, elvis jesus n me... those that are really popular now (well at least in singapore's borders..

or sidney sheldon's.. anything that suits your style..

not that i'm adept enough but that's what i can suggest hehe.

I think the second option would give you much more advantages, aside that you don't have to think about converting the writing into English (because you've already written that in English, DUHH!!!), and you'd also avoid Indonesian-English's style, if you know what I mean ::bentar::, for example:

Bahasa: Rancangan piranti keras berupa rangkaian dasar mikrokontroler dengan tambahan modul LCD.

Indonesian-English: The hardware design consists of a basic circuit of microcontroller with addition of LCD module.

English: The hardware design consists of a microcontroller base circuit equipped with LCD module.

you may notice the difference *nods*.

Lastly, I agree with E121F and phelangy, in order to become a good writer, one shall know the basic of writing, which is reading, we couldn't produce a good writing if we didn't know how to read properly.

That's why sometimes you just don't want to translate things
No matter how good words from other languages match the meaning of one word/phrase we wanted to translate. In some way, they'll just get distorted

funny example that I recently poped from my mind :

Singlish (probably? I rarely heard singlish nowadays) : impossible to be like that lah
English : It's impossible*put some specific tone here*

see how it's distorted? :D

Wow, I just have missed this thread for two days and there has been massive message posted. ;D

My english went smoothly, thought I'm not sure whether I could get an "A".

take a brief example from this sentence:

"I love you": Ishllói llèáiuëh shillói

"Let's go together": Irái ànái cëhshäénimi

"I'm the Time itself":Ishllói idallè Otwämëh énùndatwäshätwä

Hmm, what do you think about the sound? I plan it to become the Languages of God somewhat.

Tamat sudah riwayat kedigdayaan Christopher Paolini, anak baru gede (ABG) Amerika yang menerbitkan fiksi fantasi epik fenomenal Eragon di usia belasan.
Pekan silam, seorang remaja lain menyusulnya: meluncurkan novel fantasi berbahasa Inggris.

Anda salah jika mengira pesaing si Paolini sama-sama ABG Amerika.

Sering membaca kisah-kisah epik membuatnya menulis kisah serupa.

etc, etc..

MISTERI PEDANG SKINHEALD
(Sang Pembuka Segel)
Buku 1 dari 3

A Ataka AR
Penerbit Alenia, Juni 2005
xii + 176 hlm
Rp 23.700

Coba dulu, kalau ceritanya memang menarik, pasti banyak penggemarnya...

..and both writers are still teenagers! :D
WOW.

Eri, don't give up. I'll be supporting you and your novel. :)

I dont understand "characters" that E121F asked, really. I only use alphabet that using angstorm, umlaut, or some that using circumflex, maybe not all browser support them?::bentar::

I just have read Kompas today, wow, I want to but that "Corruption" Novel (Kompas Muda features a review about it). It's amazing that these two are still very young. :)

E121F: he used greeks..

Every person with a good brain and a good money could do that. That kid is a richie rich and he studies at PH, not that I want to understimate him, he surely is a great kid with that guts. But you go to 20 teenage HP-Freak's home and I'm certain you'll find one as good as HP/Eragon or even far better. Because kids/teenages are very rich in imagination but money came across. beside, he studies at Pelita Harapan. That school uses english, he talks it everyday, what's the biggie thing?

I'm not speechless. That's predictable. He's fortunate. If every wanna-be sci-fi novelist as fortunate as him then you'll see yourself taking it like a regular thing.

but well he's great anyway. he got that guts. And he dared to try. That's what most people don't have. But to write a sci-fi?
there must be 1 every 10 kids could do that.

I am indeed a HP freak and I indeed wrote some HP fanfics, too. :D Wanna read some? They are still unfinished, though.

BTW, it IS also hard to finish a novel. Salute to those two kids.

Me too.

Btw you are right about changing the story, it sucks when we must reconstruct the plot line. I feel it's as bad as destroying a foundation and rebuild it again. ;D

Miwa
Yeah, I have known the "not-so-romantic" story (since the story is about Momon and Glenn INSTEAD of Momon and me :D) since Glenn was still in the competition.

And I realized something then..

WHEN Glenn was STILL in the competition, Momon got a little influence in her singing technique from Glenn's AND it is NOT good. >< She sounded horrible.. Remember "Oh La La" or "Menangis Semalam"? There were Glenn's all over them. T_T Jijay..

WHEN Glenn was NOT in the competition, Momon got better! Yay! She sounded amazing with "Runaway" and "Setia".

Anyway, thanks for the supports, everybody.

I hadn't written my speech until 10 minutes before my turn to deliver the speech. :D I think I was speaking too fast.. and giving tooooo much joke. ><

I just couldn't believe with this performance I made it to the Top 10. :D Wish me luck in the final, this Friday! :)::keyen::
