so sick of business
I need some very quiet place that I don't have to do anything everyday

Take a vacation to some small island, Indonesia got alot of those.

Tomorrow is holiday, I wonder...everybody had planned what they're going to do tomorrow?

I think I'll just came back to my house on Jakarta and relax there for awhile, my stresses had been pilling up out of control recently. I need somewhere nice to dump them.

And Nocturne is coming to my house thx to ecwx!!! This week is my happiest week on this year!!!

@ harnadi,
yeah i feel you dude. I did aim for a long-term employment here in the States after graduation.
Get a job, live well, be independent, and get laid often. ::ngakak2::
I knew where to apply, what sort of stuff I'd be doing and shit. All seemed to be well planned and thought of. But it just didnt really work out well.
Not quite sure about the film industry, but are you more into the line of acting or producing (i.e screenwriting,) ?
wonder if you'd like to take a role in cinema electronic gig if you are back in Indo .... :D

aah...of course. Never liked sinetron myself, was just thinking if it does require excellent
skills to act in that type of setting. Certainly, an overseas degree would justify nonsense if you
decide to take a shitty role on it, wouldnt it? . ::ngakak2::
I have got a close friend who expressed the same interest as you do, in the movie industry.
She did graduate with a communication degree and wanted to extend her study in Film production.
Now, might you have some references for those types of college?

I wouldn't recommend trying to get a job in the US if at the end you are planning to be back here in Indonesia (especially Jakarta.) again.

You will be so used to being independent and comfortable because everything in the US is so self-providing, that adjusting the life back here would be like a living-hell... Unless if you have a high-paying job where money is not an issue.

The corruption and birocrachy here are the shit!

I want to ask, what the bahasa translation for "gasp"" tersengal/menghela nafas/terengah2? thx brothes

I think it depends on the context?
E.G :
As she saw her opponent walked in the yard, Janet gasped =Ketika ia melihat lawannya berjalan di lapangan, napas Janet tercekat.
After rescuing the drowned little boy, Janet got out of the pool. She constantly gasped and shivered =Setelah menyelamatkan anak kecil yang tenggelam itu, Janet keluar dr kolam renang.Ia terus menerus menggigil dan terengah-engah.

(JMHO)

definition of "gasp" (according to Merriam Webster):
intransitive verb
1 : to catch the breath convulsively and audibly (as with shock)
2 : to breathe laboriously
transitive verb : to utter in a gasping manner

oh ya
@ pandamon :
IMO = in my opinion

Yes, it has to be in English. Why do you think I asked it here?

;D Don't misunderstand the story, it doesn't have anything to do with XXX. ;D It might have some fanserv and adult things but...

Anyway, it's an action story with modern day setting (today's car, today's clothes, don't ever expect any old hag riding a broom here). It involves demonic theme, but I think it might be different on what you might thought.

The main hero is a teenage (I wished I could've escaped the cliche...) high-schooler boy who got caught up in a battle between (now you know why I want "Between") demons and angel, and must fight his way to survival of his own and the entire humanity. (again, I wished I could've escaped the cliche, but the deeper part of the story itself, I must say, is quite...not unusual or unique...perhaps good)

I can't really reveal any significant detail about the story since I'm afraid it'll become a spoiler, if somehow I'm moved to post it on KG.

In my humble opinion, many languages can improve the title's coolness more than English does... why don't you try Germany or France?? or even Latin (Not american latin just simple latin)?

FYI there's some game title that resemble "between two things" if the two things here are good and evil... "Beyond Good and Evil" can resemble that, taken from Xenosaga's title which in German become "Jenseits von Gut und Bose" addo information, this title coming from Friedrich Nietzsche... (A philosopher at 19th Century)

Simple cool, isn't it?::oops::

I am a...say...fanboy of Shin Megami Tensei games, and I was inspired to create this story because of that exact series. SMT beats all other RPGs, definitely.

Yeah, Xenosaga used it for the subtitle only and it also wasn't in English, it was in German Phrases

but please reconsider the phrase "beyond good and evil" happens to be famous, some novels use it (but with different words of course). just edit the phrase, maybe "beyond devil and angel" heh it doesn't turn out good, my fault :D

ehm I could suggest some words for the title like "side", or "mirror" which explain something (good) that reflect with something similiar with it (evil) ::oops::

It got love scenes, it got female casts...but...it's not going to be pretty. It's...sad....although at some point it does have it's share on feel-good kind of thing. To tell you the truth I'm not very fond of feel-good story, that's why I'm not making one and that's why I love SMT (especially the third installment, it's awesome).

Yeah, this story is not for everyone, I think. ;D

I don't know about sexy girls, I mean, I'm making this story in writing format, not graphic. So I don't think girls with showy costumes are necessary. There're girls, but if you've played SMT: Nocturne, you'll know how they'll look like...civilized...hehehe. ::ngakak2::

Yes! I knew it's already been used somewhere! >_<

I've thought about it, and I've decided to name the story "Beyond" only. Yep, just that one word, nothing else.

ehm I could suggest some words for the title like "side", or "mirror" which explain something (good) that reflect with something similiar with it (evil) ::oops::

Mirror huh...I think you just gave me another idea. I'm keeping that in mind, but I'll stick with "Beyond" for now.

...to tell you the truth...saying that the story is between good and evil is...kind of misleading. There's no good and evil here...and...I've said enough. ;D

and thank u so much for your appreciation! I found myself turnin red thank you.

No man, thank you. :)

I love LP, but sadly, only 3 songs from their newest album that I loved at most which are: Given up, Bleed it out, and what I've done :D what do you all think about their newest album?

Contrary to you, I actually only dislike three songs on the album. ::ngakak2::

About their newest album, I had to say that it strays far from LP's real self. But it no longer matter to me (yes, it DOES matter to me the first time) since I've accepted it. The songs are great, as expected from LP, has weakness, but great overall.

What about "Leave Out All The Rest"? I think it's the best song on the whole album.

hahaha... so ironic eh... maybe I found myself interested in EMO generation,,, and I found LP was being like EMO band in this album... but yeah you're so dam right... I have to agree that they stray too far from their real self...::unggg:: First when I heard the album,,, I ask myself... where's Shinoda voice??? I couldn't hear him singing ::hohoho:: ::grrr::

in my opinion, American English is the kind of English we had studied in school years which has several differences with British English in both synonyms, and spelling

Umm... My former teacher at Junior High said that the English lesson that given to the students in Indonesia is based on British English. My former teacher at High school also said similar thing, and he also practice speaking with British accent, also using TOEFL lesson tapes when we're studying. AFAIK, TOEFL is based from British English, right? CMIIW :)

that's true
but here we talk about accent

Pardon me, about TOEFL thing, it's just a curiosity of mine :) Anyway, if Indonesian teachers' accent or their education is based on British English, then why us as their (former) students mostly speaks in American English? Funny isn't it? It means Indonesia's education system is not successful. :D

@jojox:
I couldn't agree more :) Sometimes I think about English teaching in our country, I think it's too focused on the theories (tenses, grammar, etc), while the practice and implementation are abandoned... Those are things that made our people so slow in learning English :( Well, that's what I thought...How about you? :)

jojox
20-08-2007, 08:57 PM
yeah, les Francaise speak english rather funny. i think it's pretty cute but sometimes can be quite annoying.

errr...about the english education system here, I'd say it might be a good idea to start standarizing the level of pronunciation particularly for english teaching instructors. Many universities in the US and Canada, have required anyone whose english is not their primary
language, to pass some sort of speaking TEST (in addition to TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge etc..).
I cant really recall the name of the standarized test. But they do enforce that in almost every
university. I'd say, we can do the same thing here.

solitary_sh3ll
20-08-2007, 10:29 PM
Well, that's quite interesting thing you said there... I never know about it. Anyway, does accent enforcing act like that is against speaking ethic? I mean, if the foreign people studying abroad in Canada or US and they have to take the speaking test, is it a little bit bothersome or discriminative? It sure though to learn to speak with accent from another country, moreover if the person is not used to it...

yupe, it took me quite some time as well to actually pick up the rhytm.
I understand the issue of having non-native english speakers to be taught "proper" english pronunciation could mean a bit discriminative. Yet, we need to understand that the purpose
of those aforementioned tests were to aid us in speech delivery. Though getting rid of the
accents might help (and some literally do that), I'd say once we could deliver our speech
such that native-speakers could perceive well, that'd mean the ESL-based tests are successful.

For indonesians, I dont think we could escape from the fact that we speak more than
couple languages, not to mention the dialects. What makes us so unique is that we're so diverse. TO me, it still seems ridiculous to get rid of our original accents. Why? Because
that's one of our artifacts of self-identity. I, myself, have been overseas for some years, picking up many accents along the way, but I still have a distinguished and very thick javanese accent. Yes, people, im still "medhok". ::grrr:: but I can live with it. it saved my ass when I dealt with a cop trying to bug me down for not having STNK. ::ngakak2::

@jojox:
Yes, it's quite an issue for non-native like us, however it seems that this issue is not a big deal for several people. Why I'd say that? It's because the learning method in Indonesia is still like this, too theoretical... :( When will Indonesian realized the most important thing to learn English is how to speak? Sigh... Anyway, you're still 'medhok'? Hehe, don't worry it is quite a hard thing, but I'm sure you will doing great. You have more overseas experience, so be more confident :)

I lived in UK for about a year, each region have different accent. The North East folks,(where I lived) I think was the most difficult, because it resembles Scottish accent. According to my friend, this is the only institution (at least in Jakarta) whose TOEFL/CBT/IBT certificate is acknowledged by overseas universities when you apply in them (CMIIW).

For me 130 USD fee for taking the test is quite expensive, since I only want to measure my English competency and not for enrolling in University to continue my study.

I know approximately what sovereign means, on the other hand I don't know exactly what 'daulat' means.
Only saw them in Pancasila or UUD during elementary school class I think, and never questioned the meaning ;D

ok thanks..

now the problem is, how can i use the word 'sovereign' in this sentence?
'He is 'berdaulat atas' my life'

do you have to use the word sovereign on that sentence?

And it'd be a lot easier if you just give us the sentence fully in Bahasa rather than in part like that ;)

@inem: you could look it up in the dictionary bro ;)

If you don't want to see in the dictionary, look at the sentence of which the word is used.

If the word is not in a sentence, and you don't familiar with the word, the only solution is to see on the dictionary

yes, i did have the same thinking for the first time.. but i assume 'reigns' has the identical meaning like 'rules'.. but 'berdaulat' is like having authorize control of something..

that why i still look for best word.. but i think i can't push the word 'sovereign' in my sentences..

thanks..

what we need now is a verb

sovereign is a noun and an adjective ...
reign is a verb ... actually reign is a intransitive verb ...

so we know which one's right.

he reigns over me

Which one do all of you recommend? Thanks in advance ^_^

The most important thing is not about how many languages you should learn, but it is more on how much time do you have to practice these languages everyday.

I have learnt French for 3 years during my high shool. After my graduation and my departed to Singapore, I never talked or spoke French. So, at the end, I gave it back to my teacher ::ngakak2::

I have learnt Japanese language for one semester during my university day. After my Japanese examination, I never touched my book again and almost forgot all the katakana and hiragana (don't even mention the kanji ::ngakak2:: )

I have learnt chinese language too. But, once again, I gave everything back to the teacher since I never used it anymore ::grrr::

N3M3S1S

you're right btw, even if we mastered it and never practice nor use it again afterwards, we would slowly forget it as time goes by.
