The most important thing is not about how many languages you should learn, but it is more on how much time do you have to practice these languages everyday.

I have learnt French for 3 years during my high shool. After my graduation and my departed to Singapore, I never talked or spoke French. So, at the end, I gave it back to my teacher ::ngakak2::

I have learnt Japanese language for one semester during my university day. After my Japanese examination, I never touched my book again and almost forgot all the katakana and hiragana (don't even mention the kanji ::ngakak2:: )

I have learnt chinese language too. But, once again, I gave everything back to the teacher since I never used it anymore ::grrr::

Thx for the advice sis,
Now i edit my question...
Which language to learn , with practice? ;D

All language actually.
If you're live in another country and speak English the whole time for dozens of years, eventually you'll forget Bahasa Indonesia.

like me XD

Sometimes there are English words mix when I talked to my parents on phone. I just simply can't translate it on the fly

^

Yeah... it's true... sometimes.. I even forgot what is the Indonesian language for certain words... so I'll become a bit upset when I talk with my parents on the phone...since I have to think hard to find out how I could translate those world correctly

By the way..I think what language should you learn depends on your interest. If you like to watch anime or j-dorama, then you should learn japanese. If you like to watch k-dorama, then learn korean. if you want to go to europe someday, then you should learn France or Germany.

For myself, I need to brush up my mandarin since I stay in singapore and nowadays, China is the next big country and a good place to market your products. This country has the largest population in the world.

LOL
At first yes, especially the intonation. I could not really adapt to western people way when they speak English. But luckily, when I was in my previous job, my supervisor is a Sweden. His english is very wishy washy, you know, sometime he spoke as if he gurgled something. It was very hard for me to understand him, and I have to speak proper english. Otherwise, he won't understand me at all ::hihi::

Especially, he never tried to learn on how to listen the singaporean way of speaking. He ended up complaining about our English ::grrr::
I think his ego is sooooo big.... up to his head ::ngakak2::

The problem is, if we speak English whih is too "textbooked", a lot of people will not understand at the first time. Anyone agree?

When i visit Spore a few months ago, i am nervous to speak, and use English that is too "textbooked". The result is, i can't make them understand what i want to express ;D

9thmalice_vex
01-12-2007, 08:55 PM
^ But then , it gives you the experience in trying to talk English and then you can always do better than that next time with other people.....
Me, sometimes I purposely throw an accent (like Indian accent, Jamaican, Scottish, etc.) easily 'cause I try to imitate those that can speak English with that accent.

You know you can speak a language better enough when you feel comfortable using it and not have to pause thinking what word to use next.

Excuse my 2 cents,
European languages or shall we say Vernacular, are deeply rooted on Entruscan (Old Romans) and Greek idioms. Those twins are the "mother" of modern vernaculars. Say.. Italian, Porto, Spanish (either Catalan ot Castilliano), French, most of ex Eastern Blocks and Scandinavian countries. Then second layer perhaps German, Luxemburg etc, third layer then English (either Oxford or Yorkshire, Americans, Australian, and the whole nine yards....).

As well, these dead languages have an impact within science.

ps: Dude loosn' up a little bit will ya Bro ! When I enter this section, you guys are chatting using stiff words. That was waaaaaaay too correct, and kinda Blah.

Oh by the way, please disregard my one-liner at the bottom of my post, coz' I used to be a crawler in KG military forum.

Btw, what are the uncommon language that are considered important and used in more than, say 1 country? Like Porto, etc?::unggg::

Mat-Pelor
04-12-2007, 02:52 AM
Yes, Maam.
Well.. obviously we could say Mandarin since at any corner of the world we could find "Kung Pao chicken" (sorry just kidding) ::hihi::

In as much of uncommon language, I would say 1. Turkish 2. Farsi
1. Turkish can be easily understood amongst Armenian, Caucasus, Afghani tribes, Western Arabic countries, some of former Eastern European like Romanian, Albanian, Turkmenistan, Ajerbaijan and Chech etc. Even some eastern Arabic countries.

2. Farsi, mostly Iranian or any contries that make submission on certain sect of Islamic predominant countries. Not to mention some of area which is covered by Hindi or Urdu. Some Gujarati in India, will be able to understand Neo-Farsi.

As I suspect, the main issue here, is to be able to understand several languages with immersion method. Now, for english speaking fellow, I suggest to make what so called "donkey bridge".
Unless you are born and raise using cultured english, whoever elses implement english as second language shall impose "brain fart" (kindly excuse this idiom).
That is, when one would fall short in the middle of conversation because one or more words forgotten and then the whole entire sentence collaps. And left nothing but blushed cheeks....

This "donkey bridge" could be inserted as a joke, perhaps as a grandeur archaic words to impress the HELL out of everybody.......::ngakak2::

Me.... I like Homer Simpson english,
::homer:: Mmmm me like talkie talkie english....Arrrrgh [drool]

or Texan english as Sandy's character in Spongebob squarepants....
" Doggone it !!! Ye'all see, it ain't gonna work that way"

or some Black homeboy's english from da' Hood
Yo..yo hommies wuzzup dog? How's it hangin' bratha?
Dang it Niggah..! it ain't nothin but chilin' in the Crib, dog !!

(Translation in "Victorian" english: Hello... How are you?

For Asian language the safest bet is mandarin, because as we all know Chinese are almost everywhere in the world and major asian country.
For european language i think is Spanish, because it is spoken in many countries including Mexico & South America.
Many people in US can speak spanish.

For porto I only know there and Brazil.

Yes Maam/Sir,
To some extend, it will make your immersion process smooth. The idea was to promote your awarness to articulate and submission the "means" of particular word.

As an example: Ego(lat), will have the same root from various but similar words. I (Eng), Ich(Ger), Ik(Hol), Yo(Spn), Jo(Por), Je (Fr) dll. As well as the word: Tu(lat), Du(Ger), Tu(Spn), Ti(Por), Ye(Hol), You(Eng) dll.

Word of origin will also serve as delicate as immersion process as well. the more words of origin we got, the faster one can understand comprehensive of those words.

Cheers,
Mat-Pelor

Not really, because Latin is a dead language. That means Latin is already stop growing idioms. In other words, dealing with dead semantic is marely an extensive study of repetitious words.
Once you can verbalize them, the structural would be the same.

Ooops, I missed this question.
Well, Realta... I would say it's not hard as well. Ye' see.... If you could learn English as your first foreign language, then as hard as it was, to learn Latin.
Absolutely, it's hard with anything anew to start with.

But I'm sure that it would be much easier than learning France.

Those sentences are really heavy with American slang... unless we know the articles it's gonna be hard to translate.

I only get the last part of the sentence, "the tube" means television.
So "scenes that had you glued to the tube" means interesting programme that makes you wanna keep on watching it.

I kinda want to stick with jobs of my discipline: Environment. It is a bit ironic when we talk about
this subject down in Bali but I dont see environmental jobs are being created, yet. at least they
are not largely exposed. i was so used to searching jobs over the internet and most of my interviews came straight out from it, but here in indo, it seems networking (knowing people through people) plays very effective role in getting any jobs. Bad news is, my networking sucks since I've been away out of the country for years. So basically, I gotta start from scratch. Boy, this gonna be a long day.....aint it?

"The Sopranos went out with a bada-wha?, a Desperate Housewife got hung up and the other scenes that had you glued to the tube. "

Hey Wazzup Spears,

Well, in here, its kinda obvious. That those movies are some icon of itself. Ya'see.. The Sopranos last season had some twist reality (according to some flabergasted called themself fans of it). The slang bada-wha? is generated from idiom between them gangsters as to explain how fast they handle it as in "Bada-bing bada-bong". Now, since it kinda twisted from what to be expected then some critics will say "Bada-Wha...?"

Desperate housewife, is also an icon nowdays. Both of them are stars on cable or Dishnetwork TV. Some sequel of fragment for TV sessions are inserted. Like a "directors' cut", behind the scene.. etc. Now, this kinda crap really is a spice to the current gossips within the society. Sure they will make their eyes peeled toward the tube, just to see those material kicks in.

Cheers,

I frequently blocked shots, but with my face , ended in some nosebleed>.<

Some days ago, as a GK, i ripped my pants when im trying to catch the ball (im ashamed to say this, but that's the fact).. >.<

It's a long day indeed, but don'give up! You will never walk alone ^_^

wow... that's some love story, I must say... ::hihi:: but, I agree with Brownie there... the problem with "internet love" is you can never be sure what he's like. I mean, in most of the cases, people aren't real on the net... It's quite reasonable actually, I mean why would you wanna be who you really are when you can be more than who you really are. Therefore, people tends to be more expressive on the net. Even so, not all people are like that so there's, like, a very small chance that you can actually be with him also (believe me, I've a friend who's happily in a relationship with a "bule" despite the many obstacles come on their relationship).

Also, from your story, I think you should ask yourself, is it really love? or is it just a curiosity? You can't have him so it turns you on just by chasing him... if this really the case, you'll get bored eventually when you actually have him (or in the first stage: to actually meet him in the reality).

About the boyfriend thing, that shouldn't be a problem right? I mean you're definitely not married hahaha... just kidding... about this one, you should ask yourself too about what he means for you. My point is, it's you who decide who's the most suitable guy for you... so be strong woman!!! ::cheerleader::

PS: I don't know why, but if it is me to choose, I'd choose my boyfriend cuz the internet guy, no matter how cute he is, really isn't worth a bit of my time.. look at the way he treats you, that's just so childish.. mean, he ignores you?! gawd, that's, like, a major turn off!!! See, if he really cares, if something ever happens to you, like you withdraw yourself from him, he'd ask what is wrong with you, not ignoring you back and all... Yet, it's just my 2 c...::hihi::

That's an interesting story you have, Bea. But I agree with the others, you shouldn't rely on people over the internet even though you've talk to him via the webcam, because it will only show the good side of him. You still don't know 'the other side', and I think it's not worth it to throw away your current relationship just for that bet. He might not be so cool anymore if you meet him face to face, who knows. And not mentioning the stereotype of good looking guys, they usually has many girls on his backs while still talking sweet things about you.

However gorgeous he might be he's just talking & no action so far right, and he won't be by your side when you need him, want to talk to him, etc... totally different with your man. I think I could feel your excitement, the thought of having relationship with a foreigner should be a wonderful experience... instead of having a lover from the same country just like everyone else around.

Those are a riot, right there ...man!!!.

i replied it like this :"nothing.. we are cool.. don' t worry i just busy these days lately.we will talk again later".. and he just opened a new thread in our forum.. most of members there are guys so the thread will absolutely being love by other members coz the thread title is WHO IS UR DREAM GIRL? other members posts many answers such as Jolie,Pamela,or footballer's gorgeous wives... but he posted: BALLERINA WHO LOVES FOOTBALL. hiks.. couldn't give him a quote or reply.. but all of u right.. he doesn't even exist in my real life.. that's why i'm avoiding him.. not because he is so lame (IMHO some ppl might say that.. but really he is a kind person not just with girls but also a favourite by other male members) but i am affraid i will fall in to the deep hell and i couldn't even stand up again.. so that's why i'm avoiding him.. pray for me plz.. last time i really in loved with a man was 3 years ago.. (needs 3 years to get over him).even it just an internet (like all of u said) but i believe i just falling in love... coz usually i am a rational girl.but thx for all advices.. all i need just to forget him.. i know it since the 1st time i wrote the post in here.. but all i couldn't do is how to make him out of my mind...

There are many ways to stop, such as saying you have a boyfriend now.
Well to think again about this case it's actually you are the one who might be playing with his heart... coz you're the one with a boyfriend... :P
Anyway this is example of why we shouldn't fall in love with someone over the internet... you'll only hear the good things about them.

Or another way is by keep on the relationship as a friend & not taking it seriously. I have similar case, not long ago I started chatting with old friend. I met her in language school 3 years ago for short period, then she went back to her country and never keep in touch. Lately she called me on MSN and after long conversation I got attracted to her. She said she like me (I don't know on purpose or not), and I said I like her too.
I really wanted to meet her again someday, but I know it won't happen, at least not in a long time (if that's even possible). So I'm just act usual, still miss her but not making that feeling as an obsession, only something like a dream.

Perhaps you can do the same...

actually, I had couple of online thingie like you did but eventually, I kept telling meself that I'm better off without. So, I had this, umm, what do you call it... some sort of thoughts that once you focus your mind to let go of someone, you'd eventually gonna stop thinking bout him (or her). It works all the time for me... however, it gets me to this kind of problem in which I chose not to get involve with guys.. like everytime I got close with a certain guy, I seemed to telling myself that it's not going to happen so he got erased out of my life in no time... ^^;

neways, it's not about me this time... it's about you and I'm pretty sure that you know what's best for you right... so keep on fighting then ^^

Salak = Snake Fruit
lengkeng = Cat's eye or Lechee or Longan
Cabe Rawit = Thai chili (specific to green and reddish blush little chili)
Cabe Rawit = Habannero (read: Ha-ba-nye-ro) for its semi-rounded shape Latin-American chili.
Kurma = dates
Kunyit = Turmeric
Serei = Lemon Grass
Laos = Galangal

Green milieu and environment, Fjord and estuaries are most common within Scandinavian shore-lines. Those are the most audaciously panorama.
Struck by such beauty, you will be taken aback. Encompasses in full of Grandeur elations.

In comparable, if you could play along within Scottish (Gaelic) woodland, or Irish hills. I will bet all my wallet, that you could feel as if you were Alice in wonderland.

Oh... those two are using English as well. But, to some degree, one can not understand any of their vernaculars.

hi all, just ask, what's exactly the differences between item, thing, and stuff? For all I know that's all have the same meaning.. Or not..?? Well.. Help me guys..
IMO:
All means "benda" in indonesia, but item focuses on "benda" which are easily carried and used (example: these items are for sale), stuff focuses on benda we possess(where is your stuff?) while things focuses on benda which are easily done( such as 'things" to do), and it may mean work too(e.g.let me show you one things or two)
items are the most general of all, and can consist of things n stuff too
not 100% correct..

you're looking for a perfect blonde. what if she has one minor flaw ? let's say: she has smelly feet or no kissing skills or short term memories....(and the lists go on... ;D )
are these negotiables?
please describe me danks-ian hair...

btw, are you from yogyakarta? i bought two becaks last summer and they just arrived 10 days ago. poor becaks! and i learned javanese gamelan too....

Hi carmunaburana,
jojox was right. There is NO flaw to those blond.

However there are several jokes that perfectly describe and may represent all blondie.

Check this out,

Q: What's the difference between a blond and a solar powered calculator?
A: The blond works in the dark!

Q: What does a blond and a beer bottle have in common?
A: They're both empty from the NECK UP.

Or perhaps like this:

A Russian, an American, and a Blondie were talking one day.
The Russian said, "We were the first in space!"
The American said,"We were the first on the moon!"
The Blondie said, "So what, we're going to be the first on the sun!"
The Russian and the American looked at each other and shook their heads. "You can't land on the sun, you idiot! You'll burn up!" said the Russian..
To which the Blondie replied, "We're not stupid, you know. We're going at night!" ::ngakak2::

But you could check at Wiki as in this URL; wiki/Green_bean (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_bean)

From what I've seen yes you are right. Many of them are not so "golden blond" as in perfectly Americanized Hollywood blond.
Well... say like Reese Witherspoon in "legally blond movie".

I guess in my 2 cents, Except southern Finland that most of girls are bleached and metallic blond, All Scandinavians girls are tend to have light-brownish metallics blond. Indeed, obviously some of them has red hair or brunette as well.

But those, los chikas es muy caliente.... (spanish: those chiks are very HOT) !!!! ::grin::

Oh and Jox buddy,
Got question here: "What is blond... brunette... blond... brunette... blond... brunette ?" ::drool::

What is a black haired American called?

Well, in state of Texas, California, Nevada, and some New Mexico.... they call it Chika Latina. ::oho::

Most of these immigrants are from central and south America.

..................................................................:ngakak3: ..........................................................
Unless, black haired Caucasian other than Hispanic,
here in states, just simply "white-girl" or "Sizta" or Sugar-mama or cherry-plucker or
White-biyaatch... (excuse this Niger-idiom ).

It's true that trials have their own jargons (terms used by different professions).
Maybe they use another expressions ::unggg::
